July has been a month of many river trips and hanging low key with friends. My favorite spot is called Riverside which is right off the Clackamas River, about a 15-20 minute drive away. I always walk to the end of the trail where like minded individuals play ping pong, play music and swing on a rope swing on the other side of the river. In other words, my ping pong game has gotten better.
Kellen and I are going strong after one hiccup where I thought he was too much too soon. We went to two epic journeys, going to Mary's Peak in Corvallis and then hiking Saddle Mountain.
Mary's Peak is a viewpoint that shows you 6 mountains of Oregon (on a clear day). The Three sisters in Bend all the way to Mount St. Helen's. They have a lush hike with waterfalls and wildflowers amongst their alpine meadows.
Saddle Mountain is on the way to the coast. You take this steep mountain road for seven miles to get to the trailhead/campground, then although the hike is only 2.5 miles it climbs 1,700 feet in elevation. At the viewpoint at the top, you are literally above the clouds. If you catch the timing of the rolling clouds just right you can capture Mt. St. Helen's and Mt. Hood in a distance. And for wildflowers.....Holy Cow!!! They are plentiful and I mean EVERYWHERE. It was magical. My hair was even damp form hiking through the clouds!
So my potential roommate Tara didn't work out. She didn't pass the application process and I scurried to find a new roommate, Kaely, who officially moved in these last two days. I haven't spent much time with her as of yet, but she seems sweet and normal and like a person I would like to live with.
As for a job, I haven't been working a bunch other than 2 days a week at the taco shop, which is great for adventures sake, but I've been feeling like I need to make money. I perused craigslist under all jobs just to see what was out there and ended up seeing a bartender position at a popular restaurant on Burnside. Although I've been avoiding the bar gigs, I applied and got the position. It's great because it's cash in hand and rent on a paycheck. The customers are very friendly as are my co workers so it's a good fit for now.
Things to look forward to is going to Yosemite for the week of Labor Day with my girl Alyssa from Boston. I'm just starting to look into some hikes, but it's in the Sierra Nevada Desert and is a mecca for giant redwood trees. Actually, speaking of redwoods, Kellen just showed me a Scottish garden yesterday that had 3 giant ones!!! And it was maybe 5 miles from my apartment.
This month ahead will be a good amount of work but I plan to play as well. They say it can hit 110 degrees this week! You better believe I will be in a river somewhere!
