I picked him up early at his place. He made us smoothies, coffee drinks and egg sandwiches and we took off! Right away I had a spot in mind that I went mushroom hunting at a few times before. I made sure he had an extra pair of pants because I knew this was gonna get us soaked!
Although we were under a decent forest canopy the mud was intense! I didn't expect to be taking a big hike at this moment either, but once I started on the trail I wanted to keep going. This trail is covered with reishi mushrooms and other wood ears. I wasn't sure exactly where it ended but I knew we were heading towards Short Sand Beach, the first beach I ever visited in Oregon. I realized that this was the trail I wanted to go on that very first day, and was hopeful we would soon see the ocean.
When I started to hear the sound of crashing waves, I knew we were getting close. The abundance of ferns was growing thicker and thicker so at this point I started carrying Tommy so he wouldn't get completely soaked.
Looking at the map on my phone we travelled along an inlet right on the ocean so we could look out at the peak.
The view of the ocean was near impossible because their was so much fog. I took a few pictures with my phone but was getting rained on pretty good!
On the way back the views were becoming clearer as the even sky looked like a little blue up ahead.
We stopped for late lunch in Manzanita In a place I knew I could bring Tommy and had my first friend oyster Po' Boy. It was delicious!!!
The ride up north to Seaside we got caught in a little hail, which hammered down on us from time to time throughout the night. Luckily none of which when we were walking!
The next day was sunny and gorgeous! We walked to and from both ends of the Seaside pier, checking out beach houses and their landscapes. From here, we shot up to Astoria, planning to hike up the Astoria Column. I was too full and tired after lunch and besides that is not a dog friendly hike and I didn't want to leave the Monkeybutt in the car.
So I had an exquisite getaway, with a little indoor heated pool time at the hotel also.
I needed this to get me out of a bit of funk I've been in for awhile. I haven't been taking time for myself to get back into nature although I am committed to begin my adventures again soon.
A bit of news is that I'm moving out of my apartment this month and going to move in with Doug. I like this idea because it is going to force me to consolidate my belongings so I am travel ready! Not that I have a lot, but nothing I really need. His place is also closer to the gorge and in a different part of town I'm excited to explore. So cheers to April!
