Kellen's Birthday Hike

This one might have killed me.  I picked up an eye infection one week prior when on the San Juan Islands, but I mustered all of my strength to come along on this meadow hike Kellen found months ago.  We woke up around 7 and hightailed over to Mt Hood in hopes to beat the looming 90 something degree heat.  There are a couple wildfires nearby so the haze in the morning was particularly thick.  We just hoped the air quality would be decent and we would still get some good views since we'd be so close to the mountain.

The first viewpoint I wasn't even sure the mountain would come out!

It's there alright!

It appeared that Kellen is a bird whisperer

This is called Elk Meadow, the largest meadow on Mount Hood.  The wild flowers we saw mostly we Asters, gentian and scotch broom.

This lone tree stood massively

 Kellen's bribery tactics revealed!!!

Kellen found the shelter

This tree really creeped me out.  No bark and X marks completely up it naturally.  Or not?

It looks scarred

 Or possessed or something

Paintbrushes, aster and thimbleberries - oh my!

Here's a dead tiger lily with a backdrop of a giant tree

 A Western Columbine
 Penstamen
 Aster getting some bee loving
 Butterflies playing

At the top of the hike shortly after we met our bird friends my head started feeling the effects of the smoke in the air mixed with my cold.  We went to El Gallo for some burrito goodness and later to the Lutz after a nap.  I'd say Kellen had a good day :)
